Reshaping the Earth's Surface

Stress Management

Being a student can be very stressful, how you work and manage that stress will help keep your calm.  It will help keep your mind and body healthy.  It is important to be healthy both mind and body not just in school for learning but in every aspect of your life.  If you are not healthy and thinking poorly or over stressed then it will show in everything that you do.  A little stress is good as long as you manage it well.  Read through this eMaze to learn a little about good stress and bad stress, and how to manage them.

The United States Flag-- etiquette

In this classroom and the school you are to have proper flag etiquette. The flag is a symbol of our living country and the many people who have fought and who are currently fighting to keep us safe and free.  Please respect the flag and what it stands for.

Classroom Attendance

If you student is not at school he/she is not learning.  The classroom discussions, lessons, and materials are important to get in class.  If your student is sick or having an unavoidable absence, please let me know as soon as possible.  If you know of a time that you will be missing talk to me before so I can get you the work before you leave.  I understand that sometimes missing school is unavoidable- so do your best to keep in contact with me so that I can get you the work that is being missed.

The Preamble

The Constitution is a very important to the freedom and success of The United States of America.  The first part of the Constitution is called The Preamble.  The Preamble has 6 rules to help keep our country safe and free.  We will be memorizing this song, The Preamble is such an important part of our history and current life.  Pass off for the song will be after spring break.

Autobiography

While you are still in elementary school a lot has happened in your life.  Start thinking about your favorite memories and write them down.  This year we will be writing our own autobiography.  So as you meet with family over the holidays and on breaks ask to hear stories about your life to help recall these memories.  You will be grateful you did this while you were still young because as you grow older those memories will fade.  This is about you the more effort you put into this assignment the more rewards you will receive.

Art with Symmetry

This is the art project that we were working on this week.  We learned about art through the technique of symmetry.  Since many students were absent this week due to spring break I posted the assignment.  This is an easy assignment to do at home with just a little paint and a piece of paper.  Then bring in your art projects next week.  Art has many different techniques this is just one.  We will explore more as the year goes on.

Land Erosion

Learning through music is not just for music class! Some students are musical and rhythmic learners- for those students we will be learning this song about how the Earth changes do to physical conditions.  Having different learning techniques will help students remember materials differently and help them expand their ability to learn in many different ways.

Chemical and Physical Changes in Matter


Having an understanding on matter and how things can chemically and physically change is challenging.  We will do many experiments to help you understand how things go from liquids to gas and liquids to solids.  We will take about why things rust and how that is a chemical change.  Learning all of this will make your brain grow and expand!! Be ready to be amazed!!

Literature Genres

There are many different genres of literature.  Below is a short video explaining what genres are and how they are used in literature.  We will be reading many different genres in Language Arts I hope you will find your favorite as we learn and read through the materials.

Subliminal Messages

Subliminal messages are a constant in today's world. Everyone is connected to a device and through those devices companies have come to promote their brand.  Subliminal messages are just a split second image that connects to your subconscious. Too much exposure to media is bad-whether subliminal messages are there or not.

Coordinates

Graphs can be difficult and confusing, but they are a very valuable part of math and you will use them for a very long time, so it is important that you really understand.  If you have question please ask; I am here to help you learn and grow.  Here is a video that is good to watch and refresh on during our unit, before the test, throughout the year.  Don't study just to forget, study to remember and learn forever.

Expressive Voices

Breaking out of your shell can be difficult for some and come very easy to others.  We will be doing classroom productions that every student will participate in.  We will work on acting and expressing how the character feels through our voices and actions.  The gentleman in the video does a lot of different voices all are different and unique.  Tune in to your inner characters and push yourself to your limit.

Being Healthy

At our school we will participate in Physical Education 1 time a week.  As a growing person this is not nearly enough exercise for the whole week.  In health we will talk about the importance of being healthy, eating right, and exercising.  The benefits of being healthy are endless- see the video below to understand why your health is so important.

Understanding Rotation

The universe is so large that it can be hard to wrap your mind around.  Watch this video to help you understand the movement of the Earth, Moon, and Sun.  We will learn about this in class, there will be a pretest so watching the video will give you a head start.

Healthy Relationship and Confidence makes Transition to Middle School Easier

Moving to middle school can be a scary thing.  By building healthy relationships and having confidence in yourself you will be successful at middle school.  Practice makes perfect so practice your locker combinations, and movement from one class to the next.  You will be ready for 6th grade so don't worry.

Test Taking Tips


Here is a great video on how to prepare for a test or a quiz.  Not only is it important to study but it is also very important to take good care of yourself.  You must remember to sleep and eat so that you brain will work its best.  Listen to other great tips on how to prepare for tests and quizzes.

Understanding Colors StoryBird

This StoryBird book is an introduction on how we can make many different colors from just 3 primary colors.  It will help us in art when we start working on our colors wheels.  Learning colors can be tricky but also very valuable in everyday life.  We will learn more about colors in art class this next week.  Just be ready to learn more about colors!!!

Healthy Lifestyles Nearpod

It is very important to stay healthy and exercise regularly.  Not only will it make you happy but it will help keep you healthy and fight off illness making it so you are not sick during school.  Many of you may already be living a very healthy lifestyle, some of you may need improvement.  Knowing how to live a healthy lifestyle will help you grow up to be healthy and miss less days of school and work.  There are 4 main rules to being healthy. Put good foods in your body and avoid the bad ones,  exercise and do physical activities,  take good care of yourself, and get enough sleep.  We will start by working on one way to improve our lifestyle to live healthier.

Water Cycle Mind Map

Here 4th graders can understand how water moves through the cycle and the different forms of matter that water takes. Here students can see what is coming up this week, math, spelling words, science as well as news and upcoming events and some reminders for parents. State Capital Flyer

We will be taking a trip to the State Capital to learn about and observe a legislative session.  We will be touring the capital along with meeting some of the representatives that represent our area.   This has always been very educational to the students, and parents are welcome to come as chaperons.
